After floating in space for 57 years, Lt. Ripley's shuttle is found by a deep space salvage team. Upon arriving at LV-426, the marines find only one survivor, a nine-year-old girl named Newt. What a sci-fi horror onslaught with great characters and intensity from the get-go. This is likely the #1 sci-fi movie of the 80s, ahead of Terminator, Star Wars & Trek, and Back to the Future. On a first watch or rewatch, avoid the directors expanded edition (slows it down). Great flick.

I always consider James Cameron a goo filmmaker, this however isn’t his best. It not being Cameron’s best and still being rated what it is, should tell you all you need to know about the quality he puts into his films. However I feel like that quality isn’t shown here and his talents weren't utilised the best they could’ve been. The shift from Alien to this is like whiplash, it feels like it isn’t even a sequel and is a complete tonal shift. However there is still a lot to praise here, the set design, the acting, and the writing specifically. I love the Alien franchise, but unfortunately this one fell short compared to the rest.
