Some funny haha and funny peculiar moments makes it nearly comedic. Great cinematography and visually stunning. Lots of bare knuckled action, grit, some heart, drama, suspense, old school feel, twists, emotion and intrigue. John Matrix is basically an unstoppable action figure, and Schwarzenegger plays him with the perfect mix of brute strength, deadpan humor, and absurd confidence. The rescue plot is extremely simple, but that is part of the appeal. Matrix’s daughter is kidnapped, time is limited, and everyone responsible is going to pay. There is no unnecessary complexity, just stripped-down revenge action, ridiculous one-liners, and nonstop escalation. The final assault is gloriously excessive, with Matrix blowing up buildings, mowing down soldiers, throwing blades, and surviving impossible odds like a one-man army. The villains are cartoonish, and the logic is absurd even by action-movie standards, but that is also the fun. Commando is dumb, loud, ridiculous, and completely enjoyable. The plot is wafer thin, some of the acting is awful and when Arnie attacks a fortified compound and kills over a hundred armed mercenaries (who are somehow unable to shoot him in broad daylight and when he has no cover) you know the whole thing is nuts. It's not without its moments though. Arnold Schwarzenegger brought energy and charisma that made even simple scenes enjoyable. The fight sequences and one liners gave the movie its fun action movie identity.
