A Mexican village is at the mercy of Calvera, the leader of a band of outlaws. The townspeople, too afraid to fight for themselves, hire seven American gunslingers to free them from the bandits' raids. This is the point when movie casts started being cool as a group. Simple plot (gunslingers protect pacifist village) works like a charm. A top ten all time western.

They just do not make films like this anymore. From top to bottom. Yul Brynner, Steve McQueen and Charles Bronson, it's a remake of the Japanese film The 7 samurai with just a western theme. The director John Sturges would later go on to do The great escape. Just an all around entertaining film, the score is lovely as well as the talent involved. A must see for western lovers.
