Jay W @RT52162311 5 days ago The renowned Master of Suspense making a movie titled "Suspicion" should be a match made in heaven. Throw in Cary Grant and it sounds like a recipe for success. But no, this movie is rather dull. It lacks a compelling hook. The titular "suspicion" doesn't happen until there is only ~18 minutes left in the movie. I have my suspicions that something wrong happened in the script See more Robert P @Superbad Oct 27, 2026 Suspicion is a 4.5 star Movie!!! See more AC C @Mon_Alisa Oct 10, 2026 The glass of milk scene arguably has more cinematic style and technique in it than some movies do altogether. And if you look for it, you can spot more than a few of the most classic Hitchcock-isms in those 2 minutes of film alone. Grant is terrific playing against type, his usual charm laced with an unsettling menace, while Fontaine is excellent as a woman increasingly consumed by suspicion and dread. Not peak Hitchcock, but watching Cary Grant be this charmingly sinister is a pretty damn good time. Cary Grant slowly asserts an understated presence, while Joan Fontaine conveys delicate, consistent fragility that inspires trust. Hitchcock weaves a subtle, "passive-aggressive" suspense around a romance that is never fully clear—love, fear, and doubt coexist in every glance. Nigel Bruce adds balance and momentum, and the tension emerges less from action than from what is left unsaid. Emotional suspense dominates, making the improbable feel true. It’s a surprisingly rounded, engaging film that transforms doubt and nuance into a quietly thrilling cinematic experience. See more Russ G @RT78760655 Oct 27, 2025 The first half is a farce painful to watch; the send half is overblown melodrama. Cary Grant is insufferable throughout. On the plus side it was nice to see Nigel Bruce outside of the god-awful Sherlock Holmes series but unfortunately he's playing the same clueless buffoon. The ending is an unsatisfactory conclusion that resolves nothing. Are we supposed to have sympathy for Johnnie's character when he's been a 1st Class Arse throughout? OK, Johnnie embezzled 2000 lbs early on; what have the couple been living on since? That's just one of the implausible elements of the screenplay. See more Read all reviews
