In 1914, Lucky, a young foal, is born aboard a German supply steamer transporting his mother and other workhorses to Africa. Soon parted from his mother and terribly vulnerable, the foal is adopted by an orphaned stable boy in a mining town. The narration in Running Free detracts from its beauty, and pushes the film to the point of absurdity.

Beautiful scenery and extraordinarily appealing shots of horses make Running Free worth a trip to the multiplex. Go to Full Review Louis B. Parks Houston Chronicle Jan 1, 2000
Saddled with an annoying and extensive narration track, added for fear kids couldn't follow the story without constant guidance. Go to Full Review Norman Wilner Toronto Star Jan 1, 2000

Lanfranco C @Lanfrancobz Mar 2, 2024 An interesting story, but without charisma. See more May 15, 2015 I thought this was an amazing and a most touching movie I beg to differ with the critics who did not appreciate the fine narration by Lucas Hass as he is not only a fine actor but also a great story teller See more Mar 31, 2013 Boring, bland characters, very slow pace, a lot of shots of just horses running around places, and very little actually happening in the film. Not very good. I remember seeing this in an after school program. I didn't think it like it much then, but I never thought it was terrible. Now I think the movie is a sub-par demo reel of horses running all over the place. See more Sep 16, 2012 I love this movie with a passion, being a horse lover, but i would recommend it to any real movie fan, it was just so touching and amazing, i think this movie was on of the greatest movies i ever saw, trust me yuou'll find it amusing See more Apr 7, 2012 good film of the heart See more May 17, 2010 Pointless and confused, with no insight into the world of the animal (the narrator is a horse). Pretty countryside and animals. See more Read all reviews
