Geneticists Clive (Adrien Brody) and Elsa (Sarah Polley) specialize in creating hybrids of species. When they propose the use of human DNA, their pharmaceutical company bosses forbid it, forcing them to conduct experiments in secret. The result is Dren, a creature with amazing intelligence and physical attributes. At first, Dren exceeds their wildest dreams, but as she begins to grow at an accelerated rate, she threatens to become their worst nightmare.

I love the character of Dren, which is nerd spelt backwards. I loved the relationship between her and her putative parents: Adrian Brody and Sarah Polley.

The drama doesn’t stint on sci-fi weirdness, featuring sex-swapping creatures and an uncomfortable stretch of interspecies psychosexual tension. But for all its bizarro energy, it’s also surprisingly perceptive about what it takes to be a parent.

I cannot recommend Splice because while the concept is genuinely disturbing, it is mostly poorly executed so you may only get a hot fifteen minutes, and I am being generous, of visceral horror.

Disregarding the unnecessary 'boss fight' at the end, Splice is a creative and engaging contemplation on the morals of cloning and scientific progress in general, providing an odd but impressive mix of cuteness and warmth, and the straight-up disturbing. It gets points for not pulling any punches, but it's also unfortunate that it didn't go the extra mile narratively.

Filme fraco, o roteiro é fraco, as cenas são fracas, a história é fraca, o elenco é fraco, e ninguém ajuda a melhorar o filme, os personagens são fracos, e o filme deveria ter cenas bem melhores e relevantes, para fazer o filme ser bom

Much in the way that matter and antimatter annihilate each other on contact, the combination of a great premise with a flawed execution obliterates any chance of a good movie. It’s very poor film. If you are considering watching it I beg you, for the sake of all mankind, not to. Somethings are best forgotten.
