Critics Consensus

Angelina Jolie gives it her all in the title role, and her seasoned performance is almost enough to save Salt from its predictable and ludicrous plot.

Director Phillip Noyce... keeps things moving with an engaging lead, well-timed action sequences, smart dialogue and characters whose motivations are well defined.

In the great tradition of summer popcorn hits, Angelina Jolie's action-spy thriller Salt is stupid but fun.

Though the film and the script may have flaws, Jolie has none.

It's amazing that for a film with three distinct edits, not one of them blends the best of each into one solid, recommendable version. (FWIW: The director's cut comes closest.) But "Salt" is still a reminder of Angelina Jolie's inimitable movie-star pull.

I'm not saying that the movie is the best thing ever made for women... But I'll accept that, as a step toward evening the field for women in Hollywood.

Spending 100 minutes with some well-constructed action will be enough for some viewers. But when the apparent potential for a clever spy thriller is passed up for a simple adrenaline rush, the result is a disappointment.

It’s a great shame that more were never made as I think they could have been good. Fresh off the back of the Bourne movies AJ tries her hand as a spy. The concept is good but sadly not original. On the DVD there are two versions of the film. It’s still a good movie very è Jane directed well by Philip Noyce well worth watching
