The film seamlessly shifts perspectives between the two sides but never hits you over the head with its message.

Perhaps this film is just one cut below the current DUNKIRK. This is a chapter of history that deserves to be better known.

The frantic battle scenes have a believable feel and depict, without pulling a punch, all the horrors of war and its impact on the men who fight it.

Instead of becoming immersed in war, I kept seeing storyboards brought to life. Yet as the film progresses, the human toll of brother fighting against brother overcomes this deficiency, involving us more in this little known tragedy of World War II.

I'm a huge fan of WWII movies and a big history buff. I wanted to like this movie and I tried to see what the critics saw in it, but it was just too slow moving and uninteresting. It was pretty much a time waster for me.

Unless you know Estonian you have to read the subtitles. The civil war going on in WW2 as half the blonde, blue eyed men are in the German SS and the other are in the Russian Red Army. Sad state about what happed in the Baltic region. Very good foreign movie; must watch for history buffs, WW2 heads, etc.

OK movie but disgusting to see Nazi baby killers propped up. By 1944 it was all over, Open retreat change uni time.

A moving film, as is typical of war films. One sees the painful pointlessness of war, especially in a theatre such as this. This film seamlessly shifts from the perspective of Estonians fighting in the SS, to Estonians fighting in the Red Army. The only thing that really differentiates these soldiers is which hostile foreign army forcibly conscripted them into its ranks; they are not fighting for one side or the other, only their country and countrymen. One is reminded that in war there is no good vs evil, only one force against another. Both sides are good, both sides are bad. There are heroes on both sides, and monsters on both sides, but mostly just normal people trying to survive.
