DCI B @DCI_Benway 6 days ago Though large shoes to fill from 2001, I thought this was a great movie with very good acting and cinematography. I think it brought the franchise forward quite nicely. My one bone to pick with this movie is that Roy Scheider was miscast as the low-key, thoughtful Dr. Heywood Floyd. I thought Roy Scheider's character was perfect for the movie and well done - it just wasn't Dr. Heywood Floyd. It was Marin Brody from Jaws. I would have given the character a new name, though it would differ from the book. His portrayal was quite a jarring change from William Sylvester's Dr. Heywood R. Floyd that cemented the role in 2001. See more mean S @ApeFace Sep 23, 2026 Once again 1984 delivered another great film. If nothing else then just watch this film on a big screen just to see the special effects of the spaceships and Jupiter. They stand up too and are better than what we have today. Roy Scheider gives a great performance. See more B P @Bradster69 Sep 17, 2026 Not Bad, but Not My Favorite See more Robert P @Superbad Sep 6, 2026 2010 equals a *3 and 1/2* star movie See more D.A. P @Archives1987 Feb 20, 2026 2010 picks up where 2001: A Space Odyssey left off and tells a much more intricate story of what specifically happened with the Discovery's mission, which led to David Bowman's disappearance and Frank Pool's death (how ever in the books Pool did not die and was found and recovered in 3001- a millennia ahead- read 3001: The Final Odyssey by Sir Arthur C. Clarke for more information). In this movie- we discover what happened to the Discovery after HAL was deactivated and what led to the Discovery's mission turning out the way it did. With memorable appearances by John Lithgow, Bob Balaban, Roy Scheider, and Dame Helen Mirren, the cast and crew made this movie one to remember- especially if you are a sci-fi fan. I highly encourage those who have seen 2001 and 2010 to read the novels by Sir Arthur C. Clarke. You will be in for a fascinating ride. 4.5 out of 5 stars- highly recommend this one for all of you science fiction fans out there. I wanted it to be better than 2001. It's a tie for last. See more Read all reviews
