Critics Consensus

It might not be much of a way to make a living, but 9 to 5 is a wonderfully cast comedy that makes some sharp points about gender roles in the workplace.

There are plenty of reasons why "9 to 5" has stood the test of time. The commitment to lifting up women. The push for more workplace equality and fair wages. The quippy one-liners that help make the medicine go down. Go to Full Review

TheMovieSearch R @TheMovieSearch 20h 9 to 5 was a film that genuinely surprised me. I found it very compelling, entertaining, and well put together. Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, and the late, great Dolly Parton worked incredibly well together, creating a dynamic that made the entire movie enjoyable. I thought the screenplay was especially strong because the story focuses on women empowering themselves, standing up for what they want, and refusing to let the men around them dictate their worth or decisions. The back-and-forth banter between the women added plenty of humor, while some of the situations involving Dolly Parton’s character created even more entertaining moments. What I enjoyed most was how the movie managed to make its message feel natural without losing the comedy. The characters are determined, funny, and willing to push back when they’ve had enough. Ultimately, 9 to 5 is an empowering and genuinely fun film. I really enjoyed it and would definitely recommend giving it a watch.
