Par H @Parhwy May 18 To Chiara (2021) [A Chiara] is a 121-minute-long Italian drama I hired from my local library and saw in May 2026. I am not 15. I am not female. I am not Italian. And I am not all three of those within a complex situation that Chiara finds herself in. This film not only put me in the scene, it put me in the mindset of that character. The camera, the editing are astute to achieve that. The camera is like an invisible observer who does not know what will happen next; Chiara is always within or near the camera’s eye; it is close; if she is moving, it is moving, or if she is seated, it is still, framed. Sound also works to bring us closer to Chiara: sometimes dialogue is lower than music. Sometimes slow motion occurs… Given her situation and her (lack of) knowledge of the situation, it's incredible how the camera, sound and editing bring this story into your mind. Recommend? Yes. See more isla s @RT89656869 09/03/2022 This is a pretty decent film, about a teenager who realises the somewhat shady line of work her father is involved in. I did think the shaky camerawork was a little distracting, although it perhaps does give it a feel of realism - a bit of a documentary feel, or sense, to it perhaps. I thought the main character was well portrayed. It's sort of a film of two halves - there are scenes of her with her family, where things seem fine and scenes of her doggedly trying to find out what 'lies beneath' as it were. The nuisance, I felt, was at the end - I wasn't really sure quite where the main character stood - what the future held. I can't say its a bad film - its somewhat thoughtful and worth a watch overall I'd say but I was left feeling a little confused about what the ultimate outcome was.
