As America's stock of athletic young men is depleted during World War II, a professional all-female baseball league springs up in the Midwest, funded by publicity-hungry candy maker Walter Harvey (Garry Marshall). Competitive sisters Dottie Hinson (Geena Davis) and Kit Keller (Lori Petty) spar with each other, scout Ernie Capadino (Jon Lovitz) and grumpy has-been coach Jimmy Dugan (Tom Hanks) on their way to fame. Like now as then, the issue of gender parity remains a hot button issue, but the way Marshall handles it throughout "League" never stoops to melancholy nor lingers too long to detract from the central premise: sports are for everyone, especially women.

A well crafted baseball movie of women, Great cast, great chemistry, and authentic to baseball culture. The cast was great the choreography and photography superb, And of course, Tom Hanks played a pivotal role in making the movie real and authentic! Congratulations to all of those who participated in making this movie as it will be forever remembered! Alex B

Penny Marshall's masterpiece. It was fun seeing some of her actors from her Laverne & Shirley days...and her father in it as well. Charming story. There was a women's baseball league...so it was fun to see a film loosely using that part of history. Tom Hanks is brilliant in anything he does. The remarkable casting for the actors who played them older was spot on. Great film.
