See more Richard W @rdwoolf Mar 25 The classic 1959–1964 animated series The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle and Friends, which ran in re-runs for many years after than, was a clever cold-war era animated series with silly, multi-level humor that could be appreciated by both children and adults. Children would laugh because it was goofy. Adults would laugh for its other other other meanings. By the large amount of well-known, top-quality actors and comedians in this film, that a lot of people thought making a cold war era comedy long after the cold war had ended, was going to be a big hit. Which is surprising considering the film's targeted audience would likely have never ever heard of the characters or know why the jokes are funny. I guess they were hoping they were creating a Zucker brothers-style comedy. And I suppose it was. People making comedies often have no idea if what they are doing will actually make people laugh. A lot of work went into this film...that did not make people laugh that much. See more Matthew S @robert554 Mar 9 The first time I ever watched Rocky and Bullwinkle (2000) was when I was having a hard time in life, I was smoking and vaping and drinking behind my parents back, my girlfriend broke up with me and dated my school bully, my grades were dropping very low. My parents dropped me off to my grandparents house, I didn’t want to go but I still went anyway. My grandparents only had a couple of DVDs but one stood out, Rocky and Bullwinkle (2000) I’ve heard of the original 60s cartoon. I played it on the DVD player and at first it started off boring. But as it kept going, I started to laugh. And once it ended, I felt like I wasn’t sad even though I was having a hard time at the time. Suddenly I didn’t care that my girlfriend broke up with me, now I stopped smoking, vaping and smoking. Now it is flawed, and some reviews in this platform don’t think it’s good, and it’s okay to have different tastes than me but personally, it was the greatest movie I have ever watched in my life in this planet. I love how game the cast is here, with Robert De Niro and Rene Russo clearly having a blast leaning into the campy villainy of Fearless Leader and Natasha. However, despite the high energy, the humor feels forced and it’s overall too corny to maintain its momentum. It’s not that they didn't understand the source material, it's more that the material doesn't lend itself well to a live-action film, as the whimsical, flat aesthetic of the original cartoon loses its charm when grounded in a three-dimensional world.
