Critics Consensus

Alien: Covenant delivers another satisfying round of close-quarters deep-space terror, even if it doesn't take the saga in any new directions.

Even if the twists and turns in the plot aren't too hard to see coming, there's a distinct joy that [Ridley] Scott takes in setting up and setting off each of those traps. Go to Full Review

Covenant works best when it's honoring Alien and massively fails when it hearkens back to Prometheus. Go to Full Review

There's an air of mystery to Alien: Covenant that the movie can't live up to, because for all its interest in what it all means, it has relatively little to show for all that idle questioning. Go to Full Review

It has it's issues, but Ridley's big ideas mixed with some risky creative choices end up building a couple of really interesting moments in what could have been an otherwise worthless endeavor. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

Alien: Covenant aims for two birds with one stone and grazes both; perhaps actually striking one might have been better. Go to Full Review

[The] story falls flat as [Alien: Covenant] cares more about exploring the familiar been-there, done-that territory rather than continuing to embrace the philosophical storytelling approach seen in Prometheus. Go to Full Review

Pueblo K @RT84017994 59m Suspenseful, great story as well as well crafted and a worthy entry to the beloved franchise. See more Fabrizio B @wotmof 3h To me, the Alien saga, always gets six stars (by default).Covenant works, flows, he/she/it grows inside a human incubator and escapes via.. not the chest! Who does that these days, i don't. But, and i find hard to find the words find. Six movies and one after the other the linear plot flows like a river in a valley, always the same. There is an alien, but this time they know he/she/it is very very (repeat several hundred times the very, very, word) bad. Don't they have logs or journals or bulletins or twitters or tiktoks or snapschats in the near future? Have they lost the ability to read intergalactic news, even i know the most recent events from the planets human have colonised! I can't say the movie is bad, quite the contrary, i love it. But it leaves a bitter after taste because it shows human are very dumb in the future. Approaching a new world with zero minus twenty precautions. Unable to fire weapons properly (not inside a ship to hit gas tanks?!?). The future is cool, but dumb! See more Frans B @FransB 1d Brilliant! Another Ridley Scott masterpiece. Very well written and amazing cinematography / visual effects. Whole cast excels in character. Great storytelling. Compelling and filled with usual action, awe, emotion, drama, intrigue, twists and suspense. Enough reference to Prometheus as well. Entertaining and captivating See more Jim H @JimmyPlainview 2d Love David as a character and the ending of this was a great cliffhanger. See more Dennis F @dwfee1 2d Michael Fassbender’s characters were very interesting. Everything else was pretty tropey… but a solid action film with its fair share of gore ( aliens bursting out of stomachs); as is expected for this franchise. I think Ridley did a good job building suspense and keeping you hooked. See more Red I @RT64971855 3d Scott Ridley is so afraid of James Cameroon's Aliens that he still refuses to use colonial marines, weapons, design, the hive and Queen. And he ruins the franchise with Covenant and Promoetheus. See more Read all reviews
