Kane Parsons turns this into this strange hybrid of The Blair Witch Project, Severance, Inception and a little David Lynch weirdness thrown in. There’s an allure and mystery at hand as he lets the audience figure it out themselves.

Parsons seems more focused on creating a vibe rather than delivering a solid story. It's overlong at over 2 hours, and despite good performances, there's no good payoff after such a chaotic, exasperating ride.

I’m conflicted because I can’t imagine this having been significantly better than what we got. I think it’s difficult to bring something as diffuse as the Backrooms to a feature-length film. It would be like creating an SCP Foundation movie. These were spawned through a unique form of collective co-authorship enabled by the internet. Having said that, I really enjoy this kind of liminal analog horror and am very pleased at the success the young director Kane Parsons has achieved.
