Lt. Alex Hopper (Taylor Kitsch) is a weapons officer aboard the destroyer USS John Paul Jones, while his older brother, Stone (Alexander Skarsgård), is the commanding officer of the USS Sampson. Unknown to Alex, Stone or the rest of the U.S. Navy, alien invaders have arrived on Earth with plans to steal Earth's resources. When a confrontation with the invaders knocks out the Navy's radar capability, American and Japanese forces must work together to find a way to save the planet.

Critics Consensus

It may offer energetic escapism for less demanding filmgoers, but Battleship is too loud, poorly written, and formulaic to justify its expense -- and a lot less fun than its source material.

Riggins and Landry in the Navy, Peter Berg Does Michael Bay, Transformers-esque, Not Really Battleship; any of those titles are just as fitting if not more so than Battleship.

Some people will tell you that Battleship is a bad film. And they will be right. But it is still a better film than a lot of other action and effects-dominated movies out there. Especially ones based on toy franchises.

I never write reviews, but I must express my appreciation for the movie writers who had real Navy veterans in the film. They effectively resurrected a “museum” ship and used it to kick some alien butt, and to AC/DC no less! YESSS!

Honestly one of the funniest and best action movies. This film never gets old. The opening scene with the burrito had me laughing out loud. It’s not supposed to be serious. It’s a fun action movie with a decent plot and good comedic relief. I bet I watch it once every year or two. The people who gave this a bad rating take themselves too seriously. I wish they still made good original movies like this instead of the never ending remake slop.
