Critics Consensus

Devouring too much chaotic action and not enough genuine thrills, Beware Boiúna fails to make the most of its mythical monstrosity despite some creative narrative twists.

An impressive location shoot with a winning lead trio. Beware Boiúna doesn’t always click, but Kiana Madeira, Jessica Rothe & Logan Marshall-Green eat up their roles, and Mike P. Nelson is especially skilled at making the most of limited resources.

For an unabashed B-movie like this one, achieving the modest ambition of pulling off one killer horror scene is enough.

For every moment in which it feels as if Nelson is meeting the desires of his thrill-seeking audience, there are so many more that land like defanged nothingness. In the end, Beware Boiúna’s title winds up acting as its own consumer warning.

A gritty but clunky, muddy horror that tries hard to be more than a straightforward creature feature.

Beware Boiúna proved that I am totally justified in my Ophidiophobia (Google says that’s "fear of snakes"), and that I can skip visiting the Amazon for a few years.

...part of the storytelling is fun, but the rest is fairly predictable and uninspired, as someone sabotages their boat and just generally makes their lives difficult.

This is exactly what you’d expect these kind of creature movies to be: mostly entertaining & not to be taken seriously. The ending sort of messes up the momentum but it is what it is.

I loved this movie. Some parts gave me the heebie jeebies. I'd recommend it.

Beware Boiúna is a solid enough creature feature. The Colombian Amazon makes for a great setting, and bringing the local folklore into the story gives the giant-snake premise a little more personality. It doesn't really bring anything new to the genre, though. Lots of jump cuts, familiar scares, people getting picked off one by one, and the usual female-survivor setup. Still, it moves along well, has some fun moments, and never really overstays its welcome. Nothing groundbreaking, but a decent watch for what it is.

I really liked this movie. It was like 70’sTarantino merged with 70’s Jaws and created a snake monster movie. There’s other stories going on along the way that helps to keep it interesting too.

Thought the trailer sold this really well. The snake looked good. The movie is just boring. Like at least Anaconda was bad in a fun way.
