Critics Consensus

Big Game's enthusiastic throwback vibe will appeal to fans of low-budget '80s action movies, but co-writer/director Jalmari Helander adds a level of smarts and skill that make it more than just an homage.

The story penned by Helander with Petri Jokiranta goes heavy on the hokum, not to mention the CGI fireworks, but a dialled-down Jackson and a fired-up Tommila make for an entertaining pair. Go to Full Review

There are times when it seems impossible that it could possibly exist as a real thing and not just as a parody trailer that accidentally got inflated to feature length. Go to Full Review

The storyline is far from fresh. But the location is, and it is excitingly filmed and engagingly performed. Go to Full Review

It might be so incredibly terrible that it's too bad to ever become a "so-bad-it's-good" guilty pleasure and cult favorite. Go to Full Review

The real shame is that Jackson and Tommila have a prickly chemistry together, and it would have been special had it not been in a movie that sucked quite as hard. Go to Full Review

Blu B @RT43513976 Sep 1 It's the defintion of fun mindless B-Movie type bad. The biggest strike against it is despite a very simple plot it's just a dumb bad idea. The pacing isn't good. Despite starting out fast and setting things up quick the more it goes the more ridiculous and over the top it becomes and at a certain point it feels like it's self aware and embraces the cheese for better or worse. The cinematography isn't that good either. There is some great on location shots but they get weighed down by some dumb scenes, bad/laughable action scenes and the CGI is terrible. Everything else is ok. Jackson isn't bad and probably the best thing. But the idea it's an inept kid saving him against trained assassins is insane and it doesn't do it in any sort of clever way. They should've paired him up with a group of trained hunters and had him bond with the kid and probably added 30 minutes for devlopment and make it much more grounded and gritty. But as is if you want a fun bad movie to laugh at this is a perfect choice. Most could skip it though. See more Paul S @RT91988760 Jul 6 Just... why? I really had a hard time appreciating this movie's plot. It felt like a waste of Samuel L. Jackson's talents, and the story was absolutely ludicrous. It's not the worst movie I've ever seen, but watching this would be a waste of time and brain cells. See more Len P @RT75205440 02/10/2025 Most Critic reviews I read did not give this movie a positive review so how does it end up with 77%? The Audience review is more appropriate. Ridiculous action sequences … cringe. Dragging a suspended load under a helicopter through a forest canopy … ridiculous. An icebox is not bullet-proof nor will it save you from injury tumbling down a mountain side, nor will it stay afloat tumbling into a lake. It is a shame that my many script writers have no common sense about physics. The storyline was pathetic and the script Jackson had to work with was pathetic. The actors of the control room, some with reasonable reputations, must have cringed when they saw the final production. I wanted to bail 30 mins before the end but hung on so I could leave a comment with some conscience … but it only got worse and very corny. Wasted 1½ hrs of my life. Gets ½ star for mountain scenery shots. Any reviewer that gave this better than 2/5 stars must be a pre-adolescent boy (with no science in his curriculum). In the first 10 minutes, you may think "Meh it is not that bad". Than you will regret think it afterward. It feels like a bad joke all along. Not even entertaining. Geralmente isso ocorre no inicio da carreira. Quantos casos conhecemos? Vale apena assistir? Só se você quiser relaxar sua mente.
