While his brother Bill (Benedict Cumberbatch) remains a powerful leader in the Massachusetts Senate, Irish hoodlum James "Whitey" Bulger (Johnny Depp) continues to pursue a life of crime in the 1970s Boston. Approached by FBI agent John Connolly (Joel Edgerton), the lawman convinces Whitey to help the agency fight the Italian mob. Johnny Depp is first rate as usual. I know Whitey's brother, Billy, former president of the Mass Senate. The irony is too much, one brother the most powerful politician in the state, the other, a vicious gangster. Story hews closer to the truth than the Departed. Joel Edgerton is very good in it. Depp is scary.

Johnny Depp's performance as James "Whitey" Bulger was impeccably chilling, capturing the ruthless and calculating nature of the notorious crime boss. Set against the backdrop of 1970s Boston, the film vividly depicts the city's criminal underworld, creating a tense and immersive atmosphere throughout.

If you’re familiar with the Whitey Bulger saga, you’ll want to see this. Depp nails it. The actors do a great job on the local accent. Jesse Plemmons, Dakota Johnson, Joel Edgerton, et al really sound authentic. The story is just creepy as hell, but so was the real story.
