A fresh, funny, real story about a group of gay men in Hollywood, their lovers and friends, and the often hilarious, occasionally poignant space in between -- that is if they can get any space at all. As they make their ways in the world with and without each other, they are suddenly faced with an unexpected tragedy. The group finds comfort the only way they ever have -- together.

Critics Consensus

The Broken Hearts Club often feels like an amalgam of 70s sitcoms -- though a hunky lead and a sweet central romance provide soapy delights.

Berlanti has a great eye for little gestures and lines that stick with you the way only the best rom-com moments can. Go to Full Review Roger Ebert Chicago Sun-Times Jan 1, 2000

It's almost the point of The Broken Hearts Club that it doesn't crank up the emotion. It insists on the ordinariness of its characters, on their everyday problems, on the relaxed and chatty ways they pass their time. Go to Full Review David Ehrenstein New Times Oct 3, 2017

Dane B. M @RT88449406 Oct 7, 2023 I really loved the gentleness of comedy. It struck me, a gay man, as a sounding board. I lived/am living that life. And I'm very glad I caught it. I found myself looking in a mirror. Funny, sad and well written. See more Sep 8, 2020 I love this gay ass movie See more Aug 8, 2020 I feel somewhat compelled to support this movie because it told mundane gay stories at a time when gays on film were resigned to either having AIDS or just being a goofy best friend...but I'd be a helluva lot more excited about it if the movie wasn't desperately trying to remind us of that every 5 minutes! This isn't a bad movie by any means. It just feels a bit amateurish despite all of it's good intentions. But also, did they not have a gay available to review that horrible poster art? See more Sep 4, 2016 One of the best films targeting the gay interest group without focusing on pessimistic elements. It's a film about the friendship between a group of gay men as they deal with their problems. It has surprisingly good performance from everyone, plus it has a nice message by showing the characters as normal people with normal problems. A rare gem for people interested in this type of cinema.
