Critics Consensus

Cop Car boasts a terrific premise and a grimly gripping opening act -- and for some viewers, that will be enough to compensate for the movie's uneven denouement.

[Cop Car] doesn't offer much in the way of substantial character development, but that's not a deterrent when the fun twists keep coming.

The story’s intensity boils to what seems like a satisfying crescendo only to hit us with a new set of stakes and then leave us on an emotional edge.

Watts demonstrates his confidence as a filmmaker with a straightforward style, immediate characters, and an undeniably crafty manipulation of tension in subtle, funny, and at times frightening ways.

Begins as a joyride becomes anything but joyful, and while the story is bleak, it is a bleakly beautiful coming of age story that packs a punch.

What are the hyped actors thinking. An amateur could have taken the premise and made something interesting but you over paid charlatans lay this unfinished mess at our feet, banking on your famous names to fool us into watching. All you did is damage your reputations. It’s a shame the good acting by the boys was for nothing. Well, it’s a part of your legacy now Kevin.

A surprising thriller involving two boys who steal an a and police car that seems like a joyride at first. Clever plot twists and a menacing Kevin Bacon make this one a good watch. Think "Stand By Me" meets "The Hitcher." Great intense direction and beautiful photography just add to the lushness of the story.

A surprisingly intense child/cop chase thriller. Acting was good and the overall premise was intriguing. User Stephen C… please stop reviewing every single movie in existence on RT with 5 stars and "success in 1hr and 38sec’s". You’re ruining the whole system and premise of letting people get honest… and REAL reviews from what they’ve seen. You can find many more better ways to waste your time in typing nonsense thousands of times a dsy

Perhaps it was due to a bad edit for tv, but it didn't seem to have an ending. Up until then, I was with it. Kevin Bacon and Hsea Wigham were both very good as bad guys.
