Brad Whitaker (Will Ferrell) is a kindhearted radio executive who wants to be the best possible stepfather to his wife's (Linda Cardellini) two children. When her freewheeling ex-husband, Dusty (Mark Wahlberg), breezes back into town, Brad's feeling of insecurity quickly develops into an inferiority complex. As Dusty demonstrates his flair for athletics, home repair and bad-boy charisma, Whitaker finds himself in a no-holds-barred battle to one-up his rival and win the approval of his family.

Critics Consensus

Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg have proven comedic chemistry, but Daddy's Home suffers from a dearth of genuinely funny ideas - and lacks enough guts or imagination to explore the satirical possibilities of its premise.

It's Ferrell and Wahlberg who keep this engine revving like it does, a statement that shouldn't come as a shock for all of those who watched the pair's 2010 hit The Other Guys.

Begins with an interesting premise but does not pack in enough satire into its contrived and predictable screenplay.

'Daddy's Home' champions its family-friendly pull over boorish, toothy comedy to create a bumbling, occasionally bemusing sitcom of a film.

The film seems to work best when it forgets about trying to be funny and instead goes for more touching scenes, like a step-Dad trying his best with his kids, but also falls on its face when it tries to ‘show-up’ other films.

Here's one of those comedies like Meet the Parents where an awkward family situation escalates, and everyone onscreen behaves so farcically that their inane behavior can only be explained by the requirements of the script.

Come on everyone this was genuinely a funny movie. Did it have to mean anything, not necessarily, but it did mean something because they learned to get along with each each other as coparent "". It was funny. They were good together in this movie Ferrell and Wahlberg I mean so come on just have some fun. It’s a movie.

While it has its funny moments and is good for a movie night laugh, your intelligent side of your mind may not be as satisfied.

Daddy’s Home follows the lives of two men (Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg) competing to win the hearts of their children. The film explores love, family, relationships, and what it means to be a father. It is funny, memorable, and inspiring. The on-screen chemistry between Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell is flawless, as they complement each other beautifully. The only criticisms I have of the film are the script and the humor. The script is somewhat bland and predictable, and the humor is a bit too raunchy for my taste. Overall, Daddy’s Home is a funny feel-good movie that will make you laugh and appreciate the gift of fatherhood.

This movie is definitely not a family-friendly movie. It's more of a frat boy movie. The film is fine for preteens. Or anyone over the age of 12. There are moments of hilarity. Like the part with the dog. When Brad tries to ride the motorcycle. When Brad meets Dusty for the first time. Those parts were lol. Like most modern day comedies the humor is crude & raunchy. There are some heartfelt moments like when Dusty is watching slides with his kids. When Brad finds out he can father kids. When Brad brings his a game playing Santa Claus planning an early Christmas in April. The movie has its moments. There are some movies that you can watch more than once. This is definitely not one of them. The movie definitely has an awesome soundtrack though.
