Mitchell S @Mitchstur 21 hrs ago Independence Day is still the ONLY good movie made by this guy. But at least it had decent effects and human drama to keep it from sinking. See more R T @SammyDuncan775 3 days ago The only thing i didn’t like was when the boat coming through the city because i felt a bit confused like about how it was still moving because of the icy roads. Other than that, The Day After Tomorrow felt like an experience I needed to have. See more Ron N @RT37828645 Oct 4, 2026 This is definitely not a good movie, to be honest. Despite having a noble intention of warning about climate change, this movie shoots itself in the foot, portraying the changes in extremely exaggerated ways, in addition to portraying climate study as blind. Seriously, even with all the technology up until that time, only our dear friend Bilbo Baggins noticed that the climate was changing. Of course, certain governments would think the almost instantaneous climate changes were crazy, but it would be more senseless for no one to notice. This movie also has characters who make stupid decisions throughout the film, but it's better not to go into that. Overall, it's a pretty bad movie. But if you're on a hot, boring Sunday and want to turn your brain off for a bit, this might be the movie for you. Posted on letterboxd 12/12/2024 @JamesMcGill. See more Daniel D @Unknown0bserver Sep 19, 2026 It’s so over-the/top, full of cliches, lacks common sense and any realism. We are supposed to believe these are intelligent characters (as they keep Pointing out), but they keep making such poor decisions. The silliness sucks out any realism. It’s so ridiculous and the whole point of a father and son reuniting in this unrealistic way is just corny. They even drafted in a ship and wolves. Rubbish See more TheFilmCritics @TheFilmCritics Aug 29, 2026 Grab a blanket and enjoy. A cinematic chill runs through every frame of The Day After Tomorrow, a rousing disaster epic that turns climate catastrophe into blockbuster spectacle. Its breathtaking effects—from towering tidal waves to cities swallowed by ice—give the apocalypse genuine scale, while Dennis Quaid and Jake Gyllenhaal ground the chaos in a surprisingly heartfelt father-son story. The film also finds room for romance, humor, and a touching bond between a stranded man and his dog, keeping its emotional stakes alive amid the destruction. The science is certainly shaky, and not every visual effect has aged gracefully (let's not talk about the wolves), but the movie’s momentum, performances, and sheer visual audacity make those flaws easy to forgive. Equal parts thrilling, sentimental, and gloriously over-the-top, it remains a disaster movie built for repeat viewings.
