Jens B @Jens97 1 hr ago "The Blue Angel" is many things: one of the first German sound films, a major success for UFA following the flop of "Metropolis," a tragic tale featuring sharp, witty dialogue, and—not least—the breakthrough for Marlene [Dietrich]. Hans Albers is engaging as Professor Rath, though his later activities must, of course, be viewed critically. Particularly remarkable is the modernity of the cinematic artistry that Josef von Sternberg displays here; nearly a hundred years later, "The Blue Angel" can still be watched as if it were a contemporary film from the present day.
