mark G @Mark_Alan_G. Oct 21, 2026 Awful! Looks like a film directed by multiple directors, each fired because the film was going nowhere. Plot and story was so contrived and hollow. Shocked that Mitchum attached himself to this See more

Nov 12, 2020 This film had lots of production issues, and was released without an accredited director. But, the hands of Mervin Le Roy and George Cukor are evident (they are two of the four directors who reportedly worked on the film), as this is a beautifully filmed story of a woman, hoping her husband, a POW, will return to her. Instead, the woman (wonderfully played by Greer Garson) becomes the victim of a duplicitous attempt by a fellow POW who tells her her husband is dead and tries to effectively take his place as her husband. This is an under-appreciate gem. See more

May 28, 2013 A lot of bosom heaving and heavy dramatics. It's all a bit much but the production values are high. See more

Mar 26, 2013 WWI melodrama about a war widow falling in love only to find out she's not really a widow. George Cukor directed most of the film but removed his name after studio tampering. Mervyn LeRoy and Jack Conway finished out the film. It's not a bad movie, but I can see why Cukor took his name off this bland drama. I think I was mostly wanting to watch this because I'll watch anything with Robert Mitchum and that the film has never seen a video release. i suppose I'm glad I recorded it off of TCM. See more
