London cab driver Tom Manning (Richard Attenborough) becomes the prime suspect when a young girl in his neighborhood is found murdered. Following his arrest, Tom's wife, Jill (Cathy O'Donnell), certain of his innocence, convinces barrister Peter Tanner (Derek Farr) to defend Tom -- even though the prosecuting attorney is Peter's father (Ian Hunter). Soon, an unexpected witness comes forward with powerful, irrefutable testimony against Tom, forcing Peter to investigate those close to the trial.

Building toward the inevitable conclusion that turns out not to be inevitable at all. See more 10/28/2015 Near solid courtroom drama - there's plenty of the latter, with just a couple of plot holes in the former. The film manages to get across the strict practices of law as well as some of the gossip of those outside the process to suggest the protagonist is guilty as charged throughout the film before any verdict is even given.
