John Crowley (Brendan Fraser) is a man on the corporate fast-track, with a beautiful wife (Keri Russell) and three children. Just as his career is taking off, he learns that his two youngest kids have a fatal disease. John leaves his job and devotes himself to saving their lives. Harrison Ford still retains enough of his old movie star magic to ramp up the electricity a bit when he's onscreen, but this only makes you want to see him do something that makes better use of his gifts. Despite being based on real events, the film struggles with pacing, dialogue, and overly sentimental storytelling. The characters feel underdeveloped, and the performances, while earnest, can’t save a script that relies too heavily on clichés and melodrama. The movie’s attempt to inspire feels forced rather than heartfelt, and the emotional beats don’t land as intended. Even with a compelling real-life story behind it, the execution is lackluster, making it hard to stay engaged. Overall, Extraordinary Measures is a poorly told true story that fails to capture the impact of its real events, earning a 2/10.
