Critics Consensus

Fantasy Island tries to show audiences the dark side of wish fulfillment, but mainly serves as a cautionary tale about the dangers of exhuming long-dead franchises.

The first 3/4s of the film go down a predictable and competent path to set up the premise, develop the characters, explain the fantasies, and show the dark side of each. The last fourth ... feel[s] like the film version of a run-on sentence.

On the surface, Fantasy Island looks too good to be true. It isn’t a complete failure, but we shouldn’t imply that it can pass as perfect either.

F

Dozens of incongruencies and massive plot holes are generated due to the ridiculous attempt at a Shyamalan-like twist. The two pillars of any movie (story and characters) are a total failure, making everything else fall apart with no possible salvation.

Super amazing storyline but, very sad at times. For the most part it was a good movie. Maybe would have liked to see it at home instead though..

There were definitely plenty of twists and turns, which was great! The reason I didn't give 5 stars is because of how the movie ended, it wasn't as good as expected.

Some twists but mostly drama rather than a ton of horror. But I liked it because I watched the Fantasy Island series when I was a kid. It totally made sense to me. Not the greatest of all time but glad Im glad I saw it.
