Dwight Brown National Newspaper Publishers Association Mar 7, 2017
The film, based on true events, feels dramatic and thrilling at moments. Other times, its heavy-handed proselytizing mars the proceedings. Go to Full Review
Frank Scheck The Hollywood Reporter May 30, 2015
Although suffused with welcome touches of sly humor, the proceedings never gather the necessary dramatic momentum. Go to Full Review
Marc Savlov Austin Chronicle Apr 9, 2015

Cinematographer Jeremy Prusso catches some stunning imagery, Robert Allen Elliott's score is genuinely stirring, and the cast, most of whom are from Monrovia, is uniformly excellent. Go to Full Review

As a film with a religious message, Freetown scores. As a film, this genuine effort has a few rough edges. Go to Full Review

In total, Freetown delivers a powerful message despite limited means, and marks another success for an emerging filmmaker. Go to Full Review

Nov 2, 2015 Well, I am one of those suckers that will watch anything (I literally mean anything) with the "inspired by a true story" tag on it! This is one of these cases. I started watching this movie and I kept on waiting for something. Something that would intrigue me into it. Nothing. It felt like I just stared at the screen for the duration of the movie with no feeling whatsoever. The characters were not analyzed enough, remaining on a superficial level. No explanation for their motive or incentives and a bunch of actors that would not be missed even if they gave up acting today. The movie was not shot well and many of the scenes that could have been nice, were lost among others. The plot is overly simplistic and slow and it offers no "revelation" whatsoever. Even in the end, the solution that is given is somewhat too easy and simple-minded with lots of holes in it. Overall it felt like this true story could have remained untold. No one would miss anything! I gave a five to it, only cause I appreciated the historical background that came with it. See more
Aug 22, 2015 Some stunning cinematography but the film was sadly let down with what appear to be an inexperienced cast, poor acting, a religious theme and a story that was just flat and boring from start to finish. I was expecting something like blood diamond but what I got was watery mud. Overall, an awful boring film See more
