Critics Consensus

Cheeky and infectiously good-natured, The Full Monty bares its big beating heart with a sly dose of ribald comedy.

The Full Monty finds both pathos and laughs in its farfetched conceit, avoiding the pitfalls of sappiness and shtik. Odds are good you'll exit grinning.

From this grim working-class prospect, The Full Monty creates a lovable comedy.

It's a familiar show-biz routine but one that's spangled with happy surprises and sharp acting.

A well-written farce that has lovable -- though pathetic -- characters and the kind of offbeat humor only found in British films.

Full Monty excels at this debate, finding new grounds for its characters to stand on. However, its shyness on approaching different kinds of sexuality leaves something to be desired.

It’s not just charming and funny. It strikes an excellent balance between hilarious British humour paired with serious emotional storylines. The film explores themes of unemployment, masculinity and the struggles of the working class; but within an environment that's warm, charming and laugh out loud funny. Both myself and my wife found ourselves chuckling away throughout a lot of its scenes. It’s hard not to become quickly invested in the cast and the chemistry between them makes for some excellent British banter. The all star cast I thought did a fantastic job exploring society's ideas about masculinity and male body image. The group support each other through their anxieties about the performance they are planning, but they also support each other through their daily struggles. The film's humour completely avoids any mean spiritedness and instead delivers a heart warmingly positive story, with charming British humour that will have you laughing all the way through. 7 / 10
