Con man Ray Gleason (Ted Danson) is going after one last heist -- a stash of rare coins -- when his estranged son, Timmy (Macaulay Culkin), unexpectedly shows up. Ray is too busy with his robbery to spend much time with his son, so Timmy decides to blackmail Ray into acting like a father. He hides the coins and promises to give them back only after Ray takes him to amusement parks and baseball games. All the while, Detective Theresa Walsh (Glenne Headly) is closing in on Ray.

Critics Consensus

Overly formulaic and tonally inconsistent, Getting Even with Dad tries for a sentimental conclusion it doesn't earn and winds up a slapsticky cash grab aimed at fans of Home Alone.

The film should have been a roller coaster ride; instead, watching it is like trudging through a swamp.

The new summer movies don't get much more formulaic than this bald attempt to capture the audience that can't wait to see the next three or four installments of Home Alone.

The feeble attempts at verbal and physical slapstick are so lacking in humour that they're embarrassing for both the players and audience.

Macaulay Culkin is getting on a bit for a child star, but shows no sign of turning into a young actor in Getting Even With Dad.

Howard Deutch is a proficient enough second division director, but here he allows sentimentality to run riot, and the awkwardly ageing Culkin (approaching adolescence) no longer possesses the mischievous charm of old.

Faz tempo desde a última vez que parei para assistir a este filme. É melhor do que eu me lembrava. O filme é leve, tem vários momentos engraçados e alguns emocionantes. Vale muito a pena. Um clássico da Sessão da Tarde.

I don't understand the hate people give this movie, I had a great time watching it. The jokes pretty much always land (unless you don't have a sense of humour) and although it may not be quite as good as home alone, who cares its an enjoyable watch. I think my favourite thing is how the characters play off each other, Ray and Timmy's relationship really comes though and you can see the progression quite well, ending in a satisfying way.

Really confused by all the low ratings. This is a good movie with a really good plot.

Culkin starring in a Richie Rich movie was even more memorable. So many bad family films followed Home Alone. That were about kids beating up grown-ups. It's funny that Culkin even stars in one of them.
