See more Brenda B @bstarr Jul 13 ***Spoiler Alert*** You watch movie to the end, and just when the “professional” camera is left behind, “an” elephant shows up, and the only footage is captured by a cell phone camera, which apparently has no zoom lens. They walk for two hours after being told an elephant has been spotted, WITHOUT THE PROFESSIONAL CAMERAS! What camera was being used to capture them walking and filming with the cell phone? And they miss the arrow shot to collect a DNA sample! No payoff. Seems fake. Waste of time. See more Andy S @AndyFLA Apr 4 Ghost Elephants had high expectations since from National Geographics and directed by Werner Herzog. Unfortunately, watching it was one of the most disappointing and unprofessionally done documentaries that I have watched over the past 10 years. While there are nice ethnographical parts of the local people, the scientific part regarding the "ghost elephants" was most unprofessionally done and lacked advice and guidance by competent scientists. Instead of failed, naive dart sampling of thick elephant skin for DNA collection and unethical disturbance of these shy remaining animals, only fecal dung sample DNA collection should have been done. Instead of a Hollywood drama-type movie, Werner Herzog should have used drone thermo-imaging at night to locate the shy elephants and subsequently entirely focus on collecting dung samples for DNA collection! In summary, a most scientifically disappointing and embarrassing National Geographic "documentary" - more like a drama-baiting Hollywood movie. See more Read all reviews
