Lara's brave acceptance of hormone treatment preceding surgery accounts for rushing the final physical amputation. Her thin body and attempts at lovemaking explain growing despair. The film gives her father little help in discussing the causes of stress. There is also no reason stated for a mother's absence. I thought the main character, Lara, was played remarkably well by Victor Polster. I noticed that she doesn't seem to speak too often, for a main character certainly - she is quite quiet and contemplative. Her desire to be what she believes to be a perfect woman/lady is made very clear. I understood her parents (mainly her father) concerns too. Its an insightful film, certainly. I felt I could understand her humiliation at times, the need for privacy. This is a surprisingly memorable film which I would recommend as a poignant film, yes.
