Set in the changing world of the late 1960s, "Girl, Interrupted" is the searing true story of Susanna Kaysen (Winona Ryder), a young woman who finds herself at a renowned mental institution for troubled young women, where she must choose between the world of people who belong on the inside -- like the seductive and dangerous Lisa (Angelina Jolie) -- or the often difficult world of reality on the outside.

Does it matter that every time Jolie's offscreen the film wilts a little? Ryder should be perfect as the bright spark; her lines are sharp as a knife. There's a gap, however, between what we hear and what we see.

Such a good movie! Definitely shows how mental illness isn’t as fabulous as some people like to make it out to be. Shows the hardships, the struggles, the normality, and the mental load.

I’ve seen this movie so many times and I catch something new each time. I don’t know why It got such a low score! I’ve seen it many many times. It’s one of those movies that you can just turn on and enjoy the familiarity of it. It has its funny moments too.A++++++

Honestly I watched this as a younger teen and didn’t really grasp just how deep this movie is. Now as a 26 year old mother, I actually understand just how important this movie actually is. It doesn’t normalize the issues, some of them don’t have happy endings… and yet this movie sat with me from age 14-now. I couldn’t shake it and I couldn’t shake how it made me feel. I finally fully felt seen in this movie and it was through multiple characters. Winona did such a good job, as did Angelina with their portrayals of not well women. It honestly to this day makes me think of the movie with Lilly Collins, the one where she’s anorexic. It makes you root for the ones you know may not make it to the end… and that was me at 15. I don’t think critics take into account that young girls are watching these movies TO THIS DAY and seeing themselves in it. 10/10.
