If you hadn't guessed already, this is a movie about the deep-reaching allure of roots music. However, the very fact that it's about the roots music performed by these two unlikely collaborators makes it something more.

A must for any Deadhead and of genuine interest to any music fan, even if its documentary chops hit a few sour notes.

It may not be much in the way of documentary filmmaking, but for fans of Garcia, Grisman or good old-fashioned American music, it's enough to be grateful for.

The footage is raw, the camerawork is iffy and the sound bites aren’t compelling enough to warrant feature film treatment. But the music of the late Jerry Garcia and David “Dawg” Grisman makes this 81-minute excursion worthwhile.

A-

It's a laid-back musical documentary featuring the lead guitarist and singer for the Grateful Dead, Jerry Garcia, and his friend, mandolin virtuoso, David Grisman.

I really liked the camera used in the movie. Because the angles and small details are captured very well.

this wonderful film best portrays His creation in its entirety. There are people who will understand this movie. I believe that it is more special because it can show the emotions of the person.

Grateful Dawg is a documentary on the musical friendship between Jerry Garcia and David Grisman and it's fantastic. It goes into how they first met and then it goes into each of the different tracks and albums they created together all the way up till Jerry passed away. This is a sweet documentary about how their friendship made the music they made together that much better and the music is amazing especially the title track Grateful Dawg. All in all Grateful Dawg is a film for people who love music and want to see two musical icons play some really great songs.
