Would-be thriller about snuff films is a snooze. Go to Full Review

A psychological thriller requires some psychology as well as thrills, two things almost entirely absent from Gut. Go to Full Review

Unfolding in awkward diner conversations and uncomfortable bedroom scenes, "Gut" has a cold, flat look that gives even a child's stuffed toy a sinister sheen. Go to Full Review
Patrick Cavanaugh The Wolfman Cometh 09/20/2023

Serves more as a vehicle to deliver a handful of effective visual gags, which is still something worth saying for an experience that clearly had a miniscule budget. Go to Full Review
J Hurtado ScreenAnarchy 11/06/2017
In a world awash with backyard horror films with little more to offer than a couple of screaming broads and some ropey CG, Gut offers emotion, dark and potent. Go to Full Review

This is a smart horror film that employs a carefully calibrated and low key style to turn the screws on both the characters and the audience. Go to Full Review

09/05/2020 Started with great expectation. When I saw a women cut by a person alive, I shocked. But it goes off track and ended like shit. Now these days every director think that finishing a movie with Negative end(They would call them self that it is twist or suspense) will make the movie unforgettable or famous. But 99 percentage of this movie is failed. They show only problems. But no solution. This movie shows only problems. Not showing what is the solution or How to turn things better. Wasted my time and data. See more 02/07/2016 this movie is absolute garbage... See more 06/19/2015 What gives this film some merit is the approach Elias takes in presenting psychological horror. This movie could easily have become a gore-fest, but instead attempts to provide "tension" and "horror" through the use of his two principal actors and a series of uncomfortable and awkward situations. The problem is that there is not enough information from which his two actors can utilize to better understand what is going on. Actor, Jason Vail, gives it all he's got in capturing not only his character's ever growing dilemma and paranoia. However, is in an all-too vague insight into whether what "Tom" sees grips him because of "repulsion" or "twisted eroticism" --- this might have been the director's goal. But I didn't find the film interesting enough to really care. However, one must give Elias credit for making a film that deals with "the snuff movie" -- which one can only hope is "urban myth" --- without ever resorting to the depravity of applying the typical level of perverse glee that often sneaks into such topics. There are some very strong indicators here that Elias might turn out to be great filmmaker. But it won't be because of this film. See more 09/21/2014 Not your traditional horror movie. Where most fail and focus on all the gore and guts to gross you out this movie albeit a slow burn builds a slow relationship with you and the two main characters. Details which are usually omitted actually stick out in your recollection and endear you to the characters. Could definitely use some polishing and maybe even more current day dialogue. Interesting idea and the ending ironically needed more punch but really nice effort in the new age horror genre See more 10/11/2013 bland Boring and shot on shitto See more 08/15/2013 Two men seem to be falling deeper and deeper into some obsessed state over what may or may not be real snuff films. To me..this was a huge snooze fest. it was missing the psychological mind twist that..say..8MM (with Nicholas Cage) had. See more Read all reviews
