Axel R. @Axellent33 Mar 15 While purists cling to the 1978 original like a sacred text, Rob Zombie’s remix is a necessary evolution, a masterclass in taking a classic track and adding the grit it always lacked. The first act is a tragic, human descent. Unlike the original, where parents react to a child murderer like mannequins, Zombie gives us the "why." By showing the "white trash" dysfunction, the bullying, and the mental decay in the sanitarium, he anchors the horror in reality. Being evil doesn't make you "not human." Tyler Mane is the definitive Michael Myers. He is an imposing, freakish force of nature who actually stalks his prey instead of magically knowing how to drive. The first time he meets Laurie, he shows her a picture of them as children, showing there was still a flicker of good in him. When she rejects and stabs him, she isn't just defending herself; she’s murdering the last bit of "Young Michael" left. That is Shakespearean-level tragedy. Zombie had the guts to make Michael human. On one hand, it's the most unique Halloween film in that half of it goes into Michael Myers' backstory and how he became the killer that he is. It also allows for his family to have personalities instead of immediately getting killed or taken out of the story. Granted, their personalities are absolutely garbage and offensive, but they are personalities nonetheless. The first half of the movie alone makes me believe that Rob Zombie genuinely wanted to make a good Halloween remake instead of just a shot for shot remake. On the other hand, that's exactly what the second half of the movie is. The latter half has almost no originality to it and is a shortened down, more violent recreation of the 1978 film.
