It thinks It's smarter than the viewer while being more stupid. The setting is supposed to be modern times but there is no internet, phones, electricity or water and there are mentions to a recent war that looks like WWII. Hellboy is a non character, could be a normal person and the story wouldn't change at all. The characters have no development until they scream their feelings out of nowhere. This seems like a bad horror movie that got the Hellboy IP slapped on top. It falls back on the disrespectful trope that ugly country people are inherenty evil. It is weirdly pro-american, in the sense that a random nobody in the middle of nowhere is incredibly knowdlegeable about witches and that a rich setteler is this huge evil able to controll time itself. If it were a Supernatural episode, It'd be middeling to bad, but as a standalone movie ment to reboot the franchise, It's offensive. Hellboy isn’t always about action and fancy fight scene but focuses a lot on story and creepy tales such as The Crooked Man. I hope they can add more stories like this into upcoming Hellboy Films. I love the Del Toro movies, i think the 219 one is a fun comedy (at times), and i love the Crooked man. It was a treat seeing it dive into the supernatural side of things while also still being “somewhat” funny.
