See more Justin T @RT20830295 01/05/2023 The exquisite Vicky Krieps plays a woman who decides, out of the blue, to abandon her husband and kids in the gorgeous and elegiac "Hold Me Tight," directed by Mathieu Amalric. Told in a series of fragmented memories, the film creates a mosaic-like portrait of a doomed marriage, drawn from a collection of seemingly disparate images that only coalesce in the final moments. Like flipping through a photo album of polaroids, we catch glimpses of a happy home interspersed with occasional moments of genuine misery and rage. Throughout, Krieps brings a staggering level of emotional rawness to the role, breaking our hearts again and again as she tries to make sense of her unthinkable decision to leave behind everything she seemingly loves. There is a mystery underneath it all, which the film delicately reveals as it pulls back the layers of the onion to show us where it all went wrong for Krieps' mournful and defiant Clarisse. The rest of the cast is magnificent, especially the staggeringly handsome Arieh Worthalter as Clarisse's deeply confused husband who must somehow manage to go on. Brilliant and unmissable.
