The Hound of Hell (Snoop Dogg) is a guide through three stories from a neighborhood of depraved citizens. There is a tagger who discovers that not all gangsters die hard, a foolish Texas oil fortune heir who kills for money but can't afford to stay living, and a huge rap star who uncovers a few skeletons in his dressing room that try to kick down his door.

Playing the "Crib Keeper" in this urban takeoff on Tales From the Crypt, Snoop Dogg somehow manages to project an aura of detached suavity even under these cheesy circumstances.

The lessons offered are pretty good -- misuse of power, ego and friendship among them. But the stories are very predictable, and a bit too bloody, and the acting is uneven.

Sloppily directed, often amateurishly acted and fixated on booty and blood, Snoop Dogg's Hood of Horror is nevertheless gleefully disgusting.

There's a certain cartoony fun to these simple morality stories, but mostly they serve as an excuse for laughably lame gore.

Low-budget, tasteless and ridiculous but also fun, in an Old School grindhouse way, as gangsta graffiti artists, not-keeping-it-real rappers and evil rednecks receive their supposedly just desserts (would you believe a 40-ounce through the skull?).

A predictable, cheesy attempt at "splatstick" that doesn't quite work.

Not good, but fortunately the film doesn't take itself too seriously. This anthology film does offer some entertainment, when you have low expectations and Snoop Dogg as the host is cool.

Who would've thought goofy Snoop Dogg could pull off great horror? This was as good as you could possibly hope for from a horror anthology, and way better than you would possibly expect from a Snoop Dogg helmed horror anthology. None of the stories were boring (which is common for horror anthologies), they were all original ideas (or at least executed originally), the practical effects screamed creativity (in each of the presented stories), and the spontaneity of the host was totally refreshing for the horror genre. Many people compare it with Tales from the Hood but miss the nuance of the animated segues and strokes of brilliance that make it special. Some compare it with Tales from the Crypt, which is a heck of a compliment. If you are one of the closed numbers of horror fans who seek blood and gore alongside cartoonishly captivating storylines, this is the movie for you. I highly recommend.

It is an uncompromising, powerful movie that does not pull any punches. Pefectly balances the inhumanity of the streets and the humanity of its protagonists. Devastating and essential viewing.

Tales from The Hood is complete trash, but this is even worse. Apparently it was also supposed to be funny. Supposed to yes, but it wasn't.
