This 1982 movie is strongly pushing the idea that everyone is having sex; implying that only the most ugly and most radical religious nuts have to wait for marriage. Hollywood had no balance. In the 1950’s about 25% of college kids had premarital sex; but by 1970 it was 50%. I went to a large state university from 1969 to 1973. Most guys (maybe 85%) wanted to have sex but most were too cowardly and had such low self-worth that they didn’t ask girls out, even while being surrounded daily by 15,000 girls. I wanted to wait for marriage; avoided fraternity parities; and dated a couple dozen girls. These girls were very willing to hug & kiss but none gave me signals of wanting to jump into bed. I got to know many girls who were all saving themselves for marriage. It is hard to be young on Friday night in a dark dorm room with a pretty girl, and soft music & slow dancing, and not go for it.
