What to Know

Critics Consensus

Aiming high in ambition but scoring low in execution, In the Blink of an Eye is a sprawling meditation on the human condition that turns up few compelling revelations.

Director Andrew Stanton weaves together three different stories across three different eras of human history. The result is a streaming epic as painfully sappy as it is structurally ambitious. Go to Full Review

Stanton’s long-delayed film is looking to capture the fragile wonder of life, but it can be po-faced, lacking detail and occasionally daft. Go to Full Review

“In the Blink of an Eye” proves yet again that Stanton is a dreamer, with an unshakeable faith in humanity. That’s not nothing. Go to Full Review

For a film supposedly trying to suggest something deep with its messaging it ultimately delivers something surprisingly hollow. Go to Full Review

The past, present and future of humankind are explored in this muddled sci-fi fable whose three interwoven tales infuriate more than enlighten. Go to Full Review

The links between the three stories are fairly groan-inducing, and the attempt at an uplifting message is barely worthy of the kind of silent nod you give someone who lets you into traffic. Go to Full Review

Sam A @JustSammy 11h This isn’t nearly as bad as people are saying it is, and it’s got more to offer than blockbusters. See more Kathy R @Sonny1951 1d We happen on to this movie, it seemed really weird at first but we got really in to what was happening after we understood what it was really about. Very thought provoking and interesting for us. Start with an open mind as we did and by the end we said, wow. See more rashid W @RW2021 2d Not too bad, but it's an atheist's wet dream. Poor ideology, but OK storytelling, but the meaning is dumb. Trying too hard to create meaning where there is none. It's OK to pass the time, but the ending is poor and a fairy tale to help soothe the realisation of the oblivion of their belief. See more Sara S @Sarasumo 2d Lovely. Poignant. Watch it without your phone in your hand or you'll miss the bits that tie us all together. ❤️ See more Janina V. @eurobrat 6d It had a message that explained life. See more zio A @RT81393859 6d Stop comparing this movie to Cloud Atlas, they are substantially different. It compares more closely, if a comparison is necessary, to The Tree Or Life by Terrence Malick or 2001 by Kubrick -in the latter case with all the due proportions, of course-. This movie talks about that strange desire, unseen by the human eye, that drives us all to carry on despite the sempiternal struggle of being mortal. It explains this by describing 3 groups of humans ranging from -45000, +2040, +2400 therefore with different technologies and points of view about life/death/eternity, surprisingly being all accomunated by being humans. The thin red string is represented by am acorn. The focal point of the movie is that someone or something is calling them, but in this case it's not a monolith and no sovrannatural force, it's just how humans work. This movie explains how humans work. See more Read all reviews
