Astronomer George Herbert (C. Thomas Howell) is assigned to investigate reports of strange meteors crashing into earth near New York, Los Angeles and Washington, D.C. As the meteors land, enormous multi-limbed metal creatures disembark and begin destroying everything and everyone in their path with heat-ray guns. Amidst the apocalyptic destruction, Herbert teams with a soldier (Andy Lauer) and a pastor (Rhett Giles) on his journey into Washington to reunite with his family.

The film has the impact of a Sci-Fi Channel film and the writing may not even be that good. Overall this is the least satisfying of the four film adaptations to date.

On a The Asylum scale this is actually one of their best mockbusters that has genuinely decent special effects but on the scale of adaptations of the classic story it isn’t one of the worst but it’s far from one of the best

Absolute garbage. Senseless and boring plot, cartoon caricature characters, and abysmal special effects and production quality. The writing was dark, amateurish, and for no apparent reason, mindlessly bigoted against faith by using inane and strawman stereotypes. A total hot mess.

I gotta say, even though this is overshadowed by the overly bad but also very accurate Pendragon film that I spent 10 dollars on, and the absolute joy that was the Steven Spielberg version of the iconic novel that I watched on Paramount plus, this movie is still worth a watch. its kinda a middle ground between the other two. the interesting thing is that many things were jumbled around with the sequel. to be fair the sequel was genuine cancer. I'd take handling machines and tripods merged into one over the abominations in that movie anyway. the big problem is not the movie itself but rather the fact that asylum kept trying and just got worse. eventually they made annhilation and your just sitting there like "Hg Wells would kill himself if he saw this" and you have the avgn shocked face. as the number one wotw glazer, I feel like I have made a good review for anyone wanting to watch this adaptation.

This gets one star because it was in both color and stereo. Those are the only things going for it. I watched this on Redbox or Pluto or whatever FOR FREE, and still feel like I should get a refund. This makes every SYFY Channel movie look like an Oscar contender.
