Critics Consensus

Arguably a marginal improvement on its mostly-forgotten predecessor, Johnny English Reborn nonetheless remains mired in broad, tired spy spoofing that wastes Rowan Atkinson's once considerable comedic talent.

Johnny English Reborn is amusing in parts and arguably better than the original, but ultimately it is a throwaway giggle for kids and indulgent parents.

Johnny English Reborn is funny enough to make you laugh and plausible enough, in an exploding-umbrella type of way, to make you care.

At gunpoint I might confess to smiling when English pummeled the Queen of England with a tea tray, but the babysitters for the target audience will know that his best bits are burgled from Austin Powers.

If the troubled Bond franchise needs inspiration on how to reinvent itself, it could do worse than to look to Johnny English Reborn. The secret is not to take it so seriously.

Half-assed spoofs like this just don't work and come off as rather lazy and lame.

Johnny English Reborn is a decent UK spy comedy that improves in some areas compared to the first movie. The film keeps the silly humor and over-the-top spy action, while also feeling a little more polished and confident. Rowan Atkinson carries the movie easily with his physical comedy and awkward charm. The action scenes are surprisingly entertaining for a comedy, and some jokes land really well. At the same time, not every gag works, and parts of the story feel predictable or repetitive. It is more focused on fun than originality, but that is clearly the point. Overall, Johnny English Reborn is a light and enjoyable spy parody that does enough to stay entertaining. It is not one of the best comedy films out there, but it delivers a few good laughs and a fun atmosphere. I would give it a 6/10.
