Oct 4, 2009 I think it's a shame when a film comes and goes unnoticed - especially when it's a good film. On paper, Kisaan doesn't look like a promising venture. With no real "stars" in the cast (barring Jackie Shroff, who isn't much of a star these days...), Kisaan's prospects for working at the box office weren't very high. But I was pleasantly surprised at how good this movie truly is. The story is fairly simple. Dayal (Jackie Shroff) is a farmer in a village in Punjab. He has raised his two sons, Aman (Arbaaz Khan) and Jigar (Sohail Khan), on his own. Aman is a lawyer, raised and educated in the city, while Jigar is a true farmer at heart. The trouble begins when Soham (Dalip Tahil) wants to buy the land belonging to the farmers in order to commercialize the area. This, ultimately, splits Dayal's family apart. This movie is brought to life by the performances given. Jackie Shroff is the show-stealer. He is every bit as fine of an actor today as he always was. He expresses the suffering inflicted on Dayal with such ease, it strikes a chord with the audience. He's still a force to be reckoned with today. Directors, sign him up in more movies!!! Arbaaz Khan is alright. Same old. Sohail Khan is a revelation. He has proved that he's more than just a comedic actor. This man can play serious roles as well. He emotes so well through his eyes in this film. Nauheed Cyrusi was alright as well. She was cute. Dia Mirza performs well. She does a good job. Her character proves to be the string that ultimately holds the family together, so it's definitely a role with impact. Her scene towards the end was very surprising, to say the least. Songs were alright. "Punjabi Munde" was fun to watch. "Humko Kehna Hai" was picturized in a cute manner. The rest were just about OK. Puneet Sira knew was he was doing as a director. He made this movie come alive with his vision. I wish more people had seen this! I'm not saying it's a perfect movie. But I do think that with the quality of films that are releasing these days.....this one may not be as "slick," but it's definitely better than the majority of what has released. See more
