This film does an incredible job of simplifying the process visually, combining it with a plethora of expert speakers in ecology, agriculture, and environmental science to paint a full picture of regenerative agriculture. Gabe Brown, a regenerative rancher in Bismark, is the standout, as he has completely reshaped his entire paddocks to live harmoniously with nature. As the voice of the common man, Brown serves as the ideal example of how regenerative practices can work on the average farm. Paired with an uplifting soundtrack, vibrant visuals, and passionate direction from partner directors Josh and Rebecca Tickell, Kiss the Ground presents a fresh perspective on earth’s natural beauty and why we should work to protect it. Never before, has there been a documentary whose voice carried such empathy for the Earth and the people that inhabit it. Unexpectedly, this film was a comfort watch. When most people think about climate change, they are met with an overwhelming anxiety. This movie took all those anxious thoughts and replaced them with one feeling… hope. Getting to see actors such as Ian Somerhalder discuss regenerative farming, a topic he is extremely passionate about in his everyday life was refreshing. However, he is only one among many who were featured sharing their stories. Every voice in this film was inspiring, and those 85 minutes left viewers with more understanding solutions to our climate crisis than if anyone did 6 hours of reading academic essays. It is rare that people come across a documentary, hoping for a casual night viewing, and finish feeling this enlightened. Now, viewers can be left excited to see a future full of all the solutions this film presents. It strays away from your typical info-dumping style, and incorporates celebrities and experts in different fields. This allowed a blend of education and entertainment. They explain it simply: bad soil means bad food. There are direct call outs without direct accusation, it promotes self-awareness without sticking to the issues. This method is perfect for any audience, to address the objectivity of the problem as means to look toward a new solution. There is a centralization of America and its contribution toward and against climate change through the internal farming efforts as well as the UN agricultural plea pushed by Stephene Le Foll that the USA did not show up for. The ups and downs are presented to speak to the failures of mankind and how not to repeat them. Not through critique, but rather growth (pun intended). Anything that Woody Harrelson is willing to do, I trust his choices, this film is so thought provoking and the practices so needed in our day and age. Nice to know regenerative farming is gaining traction. I live in Canada and there are a few here in my province of Ontario, I hope one day they will surpass factory farming.
