When the hapless Sing and his dim-witted pal Bone try to scam the residents of Pig Sty Alley into thinking they're members of the dreaded Axe Gang, the real gangsters descend on this Shanghai slum to restore their fearsome reputation. Holy crap, this movie was insane! Hilarious slapstick comedy like a live-action Looney Tunes cartoon, terrific fight scenes from the Matrix trilogy's own choreographer and a memorable cast of characters whilst also having a story that has a few more tricks up its sleeve than you might think. It actually gives characters more layers to them than you'd assume on a first viewing such as the landlady who's initially introduced as cranky. Never seen a Stephen Chow film, though I had heard of Shaolin Soccer back in my younger days, but seeing Kung Fu Hustle for the first time, I understood why it ended up "ruining" his career...by setting the bar too high.
