Lady Snowblood only half-heartedly revels in its heroine's bloody revenge, while focusing just as much on the tragedy of her circumstances and the absurdity of her vengeful fate. Go to Full Review

Sangwinne D. @sangwinne 6d A tale that should feel like destiny in flesh cold, patient, inevitable. In moments, it nearly achieves that. The lead performance is hauntingly precise, carrying a quiet, grace that feels nostalgic. The story itself drips with generational vengeance, a curse passed down and nurtured into something sharp enough to cut through time. That part, I respect. But respect is not the same as satisfaction. The editing is clumsy, breaking immersion with abrupt, careless transitions that drain tension before it can properly settle. Worse still, the fight choreography feels hollowed, unconvincing, lacking the weight it so desperately tries to portray. Even compared to earlier Japanese films, it falters. The action should feel like fate fulfilled instead, it feels performed. There is beauty here, yes—but it is buried beneath missteps that cannot be ignored. What could have been an elegant symphony of revenge instead limps forward, fragmented and uneven. See more Henry D @Henry_Domke Apr 4 A fun B-movie that reminded me of the Lone Wolf and Cub series. The slashing violence and spurting blood are so stylized that they never felt offensive. The print looked very good. See more Logan D @Greynomad38 Feb 7 A girl is born to be the instrument of her mother's revenge against the latter's assailants. A classic of Jidaigeki cinema, you quickly realize this film was a major influence on Tarantino's Kill Bill. The titular character has no remorse for her victims, only regretting when their deaths are not by her sharp ass sword. Seriously! That sword is so keen it would be an artifact in DnD! Bonus material includes cops with a boogie woogie tracks. Joking aside, I enjoyed this action thriller featuring some incredible visual acuity. See more aya t @ayaueta Dec 1 quenton tarentino's kill bill is actually pays homage to lady snowblood revenge film with even with the same song & lucy lui' yakuza boss(oyabun) wearing a white kimono in the snow that also gets splattered w' red blood like mieko kaji's kimono. but yuki kashima's translated name is actually snow white. but lady snowblood just sounds much more menacing than snow white. based on the manga by kazuo koike(lone wolf with cub)& kazuo kamimura. See more Dani G @RT81139271 Jul 30 A movie so impactful and so ahead of its time (at least for west audiences) that it was the base for Tarantino to create Kill Bill See more Johnathon W @Hoppynsc May 14 Solid and stylish revenge film that works mostly thanks to Meiko Kaji's lead performance along with a story that takes the consequences of revenge seriously. Kaji is superb as the title character, beautiful yet deadly as Snowblood, along with dogged in her pursuit for revenge but also aware of the costs. Behind the camera, director Toshiya Fujita crafts a solid revenge flick with some violent, over the top action. Plus, he shows Snowblood mission for revenge isn't as clean cut, as not everyone is the monster she believes. However, it is a bit over the top and the action is a bit stiff at times but still a fun watch. See more Read all reviews
