Guy Jamo Aug 14 Wonderful. Must see. See more Chris S @Janomi Jul 28 Lincoln is a really solid historical drama because Steven Spielberg keeps the focus narrow and controlled. Instead of turning the story into a broad Civil War epic, he builds tension out of politics, persuasion, compromise, vote-counting, and the hard work of governing. Daniel Day-Lewis is extraordinary as Lincoln. He does not play him as a marble statue, but as warm, weary, funny, patient, politically sharp, and deeply burdened. The voice, posture, storytelling, sadness, and quiet intelligence make him feel fully human. The ensemble gives the political world life, with Tommy Lee Jones bringing fire to Thaddeus Stevens, Sally Field giving Mary Todd Lincoln grief and volatility, and James Spader adding unexpected humor. The tight focus on the Thirteenth Amendment gives the film discipline, though it also limits the larger view of Lincoln’s life and the Civil War. Still, Lincoln is thoughtful, intelligent, and beautifully acted. See more Max M @Househuntermax Jul 26 Good acting and directing, of course. See more Breathe J @SilverScreenSweetheart Jun 19 Lincoln (2012) follows the heroic presidency of Abraham Lincoln (Daniel Day-Lewis) as he led the Union Army to victory. Wow, it is nearly impossible to describe this movie in less than 1,000 characters! I thought this movie would be good but I was wrong… It was STELLAR. The direction (from Spielberg) was stunning, the costumes were exquisite, the photography was gorgeous, and the screenplay was amazing. The cast was impeccable, especially Daniel Day-Lewis. His Oscar-winning performance fully captured Lincoln’s spirit, as seen in his mannerisms, stories, and quiet strength. His portrayal honored Lincoln’s memory beautifully. Sally Field and Tommy Lee Jones gave stunning performances as well. I admired the fact that Lincoln’s assassin was not named or shown in the movie, preserving Lincoln’s dignity and legacy. Overall, this movie is among the best I have ever seen! I would definitely recommend it for anyone and everyone, especially Americans and fans of Lincoln. God bless you. See more Michael W. Jun 12 This is a bit complicated in that it portrays Lincoln after her eventually realized that freeing slaves would not only be morally correct but could further cripple the South. Also, note that racial equality was not a determinate factor regarding emancipation. Nonetheless, however somewhat over romantic, Daniel Day-Lewis is without a doubt one of the finest actors of our generation. There wasn't a scene where you couldn't wait to see him..
