Marco L @decatur555 20 hrs ago A dark, tightly wound home-invasion thriller that works because it keeps shifting your perception of who is dangerous and who is vulnerable. The isolated house, hostile night and arrival of two strangers create immediate unease, but the film's real strength is how that first impression gradually becomes less reliable. Joely Richardson is excellent, using restraint rather than excess to make every look and pause feel suspicious, while Sadie Soverall adds a different kind of vulnerability. Matthias Hoene keeps the tension rising without drowning the story in gore, and the confined setting becomes increasingly oppressive. Some twists and character choices require a generous suspension of disbelief, and the film does not reinvent the genre, but the execution is strong enough to overcome most of those limitations. Moody, tense and pleasantly nasty, this is exactly the kind of small thriller that starts with modest expectations and ends up being far more effective than expected.
